Newtown Quakers To Hear Head Of Quaker Lobby In Washington, D.C.

Bridget Moix, the General Secretary of the oldest religious lobby in Washington, D.C., the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), will speak on “War Is Not the Answer – At Home or Abroad: Quaker Witness in Washington in a Time of Crisis” at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, at the historic Newtown Friends Meetinghouse. Meeting for Worship in the manner of Friends with expectant waiting in silence begins at 11:00 a.m.

“In the midst of rising authoritarianism and political violence, the Friends Committee on National Legislation continues to be a voice for peace on Capitol Hill, advocating persistently for a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world,” said Bridget Moix.

“We will be bringing updates on FCNL’s lobbying efforts to end the genocide in Gaza, respond to mass detention and deportation of our neighbors, restore vital funding for human needs, and much more. In the midst of multiple crises, FCNL continues bringing Quaker values to bear on US policy and invites all people everywhere to join in this spirit-led work,” she said.

Founded in 1943 by members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), FCNL’s professional staff and many volunteers work with a nationwide network of tens of thousands of people from many different races, religions, and cultures to advocate social and economic justice, peace, and good government in our nation’s capital. FCNL is a nonpartisan organization.

FCNL’s legislative priorities and policies are set by a grass roots General Committee of Quakers from around the country. FCNL’s multi-issue advocacy connects historic Quaker testimonies on equality, simplicity, peace, and truth with current issues which the United States government is or should be addressing.
