Financial Advisor at $750 Million Quaker Fund to Speak to Newtown Quakers on “How to be a Philanthropist”
Mimi Blackwell, Director of Philanthropic Services at Friends Fiduciary Corporation (FFC) in Philadelphia, will speak at the Newtown Quaker Meetinghouse, 219 Court Street, at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, September 29. Following the presentation, there will be worship in the manner of Friends at 11:00 a.m. with people speaking out of silence as they are moved to do so. The public is welcome at all events.
Mimi Blackwell is also a lawyer, an educator, and a member of the National Ski Patrol and serves as a volunteer patroller at Plattekill Mountain in the Catskills!
The title of Mimi’s talk will be, “LEGACY GIVING: Let Your Life Speak.”
Blackwell says, “Don’t think this topic does not apply to you! Many people assume that being philanthropic is something only the wealthy or those of a ‘certain age’ do.” During her presentation Mimi will prove these assumptions to be incorrect and self-limiting.
Mimi says, “In fact, there are ways for everyone to achieve the feel-good sense of supporting an organization that they value. In our discussion, you will learn how to maximize your gifting ability, explore vehicles that actually pay you lifetime income, find out which assets facilitate smart gift making, and get creative and excited about philanthropy!”
Mimi Blackwell has worked in Quaker settings since 2005. In her current position as the Director of Philanthropic Services at Friends Fiduciary Corporation, she supports Quaker Meetings and organizations in establishing and growing Planned Giving programs. In her role at FFC, Mimi also helps individuals to make meaningful gifts to the Quaker organizations they value.
Before joining Friends Fiduciary in 2017, Mimi was the Head of Goshen Friends School in West Chester, Pennsylvania, a custody mediator in Chester County, and a practicing attorney in Butler County, Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and William Smith College. Mimi serves on the board of Lancaster Friends School and is a member of the Arch Street Meetinghouse Preservation Trust Capital Campaign Steering Committee. Her two children are graduates of Wilmington Friends School and Goshen Friends School.
