Newtown Quakers to hear Dr. Joe Hulihan on My Journey with ADHD

Dr. Joe Hulihan

Joe Hulihan M.D. will speak at Newtown Quaker Meeting adult class on Sunday, April 26 at 9:45 a.m. on the topic My Journey with ADHD. Worship in the manner of Friends based on expectant silence will follow at 11 a.m.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can affect many parts of an individual’s professional and personal life. Joe Hulihan, a board certified neurologist, will relate the clinical descriptions of ADHD to his own experience, the “Aha!” moment that put these experiences in perspective, and the coping strategies that he and others use to manage their daily lives – also, how ADHD can be a blessing as well as a curse.

Dr. Anthony Rostain, a physician and ADHD expert at Penn, has said that individuals with ADHD are “allergic to ritual.” Hulihan’s talk will include speculations on whether Quakerism – with its unprogrammed worship and rejection of dogma – can provide a particularly hospitable community for someone with ADHD.
