Newtown Quakers to Hear from Chris Mohr, New General Secretary of Quakers in Multi-State Area.

Chris Mohr, General Secretary of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of Friends will give an update on priorities of the Yearly Meeting at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday March 29, at the historic Newtown Friends Meetinghouse at 219 Court Street. Meeting for Worship in the manner of Friends with expectant waiting in silence will follow at 11:00 a.m.

“Yearly Meetings” are large autonomous bodies of Quakers, meeting for several days once annually to conduct business, formulate the discipline, receive reports and concerns from its constituent meetings, review the state of the Society, and communicate.

Chris Mohr has served as General Secretary of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (PYM) of Friends since November 2025. PYM is the association of over 10,000 Quakers in 110 Quaker meetings and worship groups in the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Delaware, South Jersey, and eastern and central Pennsylvania. The staff of PYM provides support, connection, and services to the wider body of Friends in our region.

Chris is currently a member of Green Street Monthly Meeting in Philadelphia. He first attended Friends meeting as a young adult at 15th Street Meeting in New York City. He later became a member of San Francisco Monthly Meeting in Pacific Yearly Meeting. In 2011, his wife Robin and their two children moved to Philadelphia. For the past 10 years, Chris served as executive director of Friends Center, the Quaker building complex in Center City Philadelphia that includes the offices of PYM and the American Friends Service Committee.

During his visit to Newtown Meeting, Chris will lead a listening session. He would like to hear how the Spirit is moving among Friends, especially related to the two-Yearly Meeting-wide witnesses of climate justice and addressing racism, as well as other activities that have life and power for Friends at this time. He would also like to know what spiritual practices help Friends to do their work, and in what ways the Yearly Meeting might support those practices.
